HUB’s Sewer Department is conducting major rehabilitation of the sanitary sewer system through grants and loans secured from the State and Federal government, as well as funds from its annual operating budget. The upgraded Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and major pumping stations are currently capable of handling surges of up to five million gallons per day. Current sampling and testing demonstrated that the quality of treated water leaving the WWTP exceeds that of the river water into which it is released.
Personnel operating the WWTP hold the highest State certification (Class IV). In addition, HUB has State-Certified Collection Specialists available 24 hours a day. Crews of specialists conduct daily surveys to identify and isolate any system leaks, and to monitor the pumping stations.
